The short film is kicked off with characters investigating a monster, and we give the viewer the opportunity to do their own investigation. With hopefully with better luck.

Wendigo Note. 2.

The windigo got notes to help it seem to have some awareness. It’s using a weapon, wendigos are known for eating people, and it’s wearing a kiss the cook apron as a dark sense of humour. He was a monster before turning supernatural.

It also helps diversify the mixed media, adding to documents you have to read, not just sit down and listen to.

The windigo’s model has details that reference other parts of the story, as well as having marks that are from it’s history.

Break Downs

Animation

With the animation near I tried to capture some of them between human gorilla and a bit of K9 in the running. I filmed reference for it where I had tied sticks to my arms and acted out the motions. safe to say I'm not putting the video on anywhere.

Camera Colour Grade

Would the colour grading there were three main things I wanted to hit. On top of trying to recreate a night by doing a sky replacement on top of making it darker.

Number one, what the camera would actually see when filming at night. So that entailed adding film grain. Create my own Focus maps to have things closer to the camera the easier to see than others.

Number two, what the human eye would see at night. It is slowly but surely, the viewer can see more and more in the dark as the camera’s “eye” adjusts. Similar to how a real eye would in the dark, with the bonus of not being too harsh when cutting to the flashback in the day.

Number 3, and to make it stylised. The character's red jacket in reality would be a dark grey, but to make him stand out in the dark blue. It is red, making it easier for the eye to track him, and in a way putting us in the shoes of the monster with blood in the water.

Oscar used assets that he was provided to set up the a drone shot in Unreal and engine 5 because it delivered the most effective recreational lighting. More info on the brif website.

We did something similar to how the Batman filmed the wing suit scene. Where they filmed it similar to how real life wingsuits are filmed to give it that air of believability and a lot of people actually believed they did that stunt.

To give it that authentic drone shot feel we actually had a 3D model for a drone attached to the camera and when flying up you can see it’s shadow in the bottom right corner.
